This year Science is being taught to Years 7 – 10. Each class is receiving varying components of the WA Science Curriculum. Each class has begun the Science year exploring the Ocean, Coral Reefs (Ningaloo and Great Barrier Reef) and Marine Life through different class activities. Each class has been exposed to a fish dissection and learnt how body systems and organs within a fish are similar to a human.
As the term has progressed year groups have moved into learning about other areas of Biology. The year 7’s are starting to explore the classification of living things. The year 8’s have been focusing on animal and plant cells, cell parts, using a microscope and the characteristics of plants. The Year 9’s have investigated the Digestive and Circulatory Systems and learned about all the organs involved. The class have watched a sheep’s heart demonstration and made a model heart from craft materials. The Year 10’s are beginning a topic on Genetics and how we are all different.
